What Is a Done-For-You Shopify App Service?

Category definition distinguishing done-for-you builds from self-serve app builders and custom development agencies.

A done-for-you Shopify app service is a company that builds, launches and maintains a mobile app for your Shopify store on your behalf. You do not use an editor, manage templates or handle app store submissions. The service handles the build, the App Store and Google Play approvals, the push notification setup and the ongoing updates. You review and approve.

It sits between the two options most merchants already know. On one side are no-code app builders like Tapcart, Vajro and Shopney, where you pay a monthly SaaS fee and assemble the app yourself. On the other side is custom development, where you hire an agency or in-house team and spend anywhere from $30,000 to $400,000 on a ground-up build. Done-for-you is the third model: agency-level output, productized scope, without the enterprise invoice or the DIY workload.

The three ways to get a Shopify app

1. No-code app builders (DIY SaaS). Platforms like Tapcart (from $200 per month), Vajro (from $100, rising with order volume) and Shopney (from $99) give you a drag-and-drop editor and real-time Shopify sync. You design the app, you run the push campaigns, you manage the listing.

Where this wins: speed to launch, lowest entry price, full self-serve control. A working app can exist in under a week.

Where it costs you: your time, first of all. Someone on your team owns the app now. Templates also mean your app can look like every other store's app. Several builders charge success fees or jump price tiers as your order volume grows, which merchants routinely report as a surprise. And most builder apps are webview wrappers rather than fully native, which shows up in load times and polish.

2. Custom development (traditional agency or in-house). A team builds your app from scratch. Total control, total flexibility, native everything.

Where this wins: no ceiling. If you want AR try-on or a bespoke loyalty engine, this is the route.

Where it costs you: companies that priced this internally report $100,000 to $400,000 in development cost before maintenance (Head West Guide, 2025). Timelines run months. For most stores under eight figures in revenue, the math does not close.

3. Done-for-you (the model Bonsify runs). A specialized team builds you a native app or PWA, submits it, launches it and keeps maintaining it, for a scoped engagement instead of an enterprise budget. You get the output of the custom route with the simplicity of the SaaS route.

Where this wins: no internal workload, native builds instead of webview wrappers, a team that has already been through App Store review, and one accountable party from build through support.

Where it costs you: it is not the cheapest entry point, and it is not self-serve. If you want to redesign your home screen yourself at midnight, a builder suits you better. If you want an app that ships and performs without becoming someone's second job, done-for-you exists for exactly that.

Why the model exists at all

Two numbers explain it. Mobile now carries roughly 75% of ecommerce traffic (Statista, 2025) but converts at roughly half the desktop rate on the mobile web (Dynamic Yield, 2025). Apps close most of that gap, converting around 130% higher than mobile web (Venn Apps, 2025). So the commercial case for an app is strong and getting stronger.

But the two existing routes each fail a large group of merchants. Builders fail merchants who do not have a person to run the app, who outgrow templates, or whose fees scale painfully with volume. Custom fails everyone without a six-figure budget. The merchants in between, which is most of them, needed a third option. That is the category.

What a done-for-you engagement includes

At Bonsify the scope runs in four phases, which is representative of the model:

  1. Audit. Review the store, the mobile traffic and where conversion leaks. Decide together whether the right first move is a native app, a PWA, or neither. Sometimes the honest answer is neither, and saying so early is cheaper for everyone.
  2. Build. Native iOS and Android apps synced to the live Shopify catalog, checkout and inventory, or a PWA for the fastest route to the home screen. Design matched to the brand rather than a shared template.
  3. Launch. App Store and Google Play submission, listing copy and screenshots, and the review process handled. Apple review alone typically takes 1 to 3 days and can stretch to two weeks for first submissions, and rejections are common for first-timers. This step is where DIY merchants most often stall.
  4. Support. OS updates, Shopify API changes, feature iteration and push strategy on a retainer. Apps that stop being updated decay; app maintenance is not optional, only deferred.

The install layer is part of the scope too. An app nobody installs earns nothing, so engagements include an install strategy, typically a reward-on-install prompt with attribution, which is the job of our own Shopify app, Dockify.

How to choose between the three models

Use your constraint, not the feature lists.

  • Constraint is budget and you have a capable marketer with spare hours: use a builder.
  • Constraint is nothing and the app is core product infrastructure: go custom.
  • Constraint is time and attention, and you want the outcome without the job: done-for-you.

One more honest filter. If your store does under roughly $10,000 a month in revenue, skip apps entirely for now and fix conversion fundamentals first. An app amplifies an already-working store; it does not rescue a struggling one.

Bonsify is a done-for-you Shopify mobile app service by FetchSky that turns Shopify stores into native iOS and Android apps and PWAs. Book a call.

Engagements are scoped per store rather than priced as a flat SaaS tier. As orientation: more than a builder's $99 to $250 monthly fee, a fraction of the $100,000-plus custom route. The audit phase produces a fixed quote before any build starts.

A PWA can be live on a store in days because there is no app store review. Native iOS and Android builds typically run several weeks including Apple and Google review. First-time App Store submissions should budget up to two weeks for review alone.

Yes. The app, the listings and the customer relationship belong to the merchant. This is worth confirming with any provider, since some builder contracts complicate ownership of the listing.

No. Plus agencies build storefronts and themes. A done-for-you app service is specialized in the mobile app layer: native builds, PWAs, push, app store operations and install attribution.

Dockify is Bonsify's own Shopify app. It adds a home screen install prompt to a store, gives the customer a discount code on install, and attributes each install to the order it produces. It works standalone or as the install layer of a full engagement.
